I’ve been silent for a few months now, and there’s a good reason for that. I just finished a huge project for the new Royal Alberta Museum. It’s been a whirlwind of coordinating with guides, driving around the province, scouting locations, and way too much time processing images. I met quite a few wonderful and fascinating people who made this job a pleasure to do.
When you walk in to the new museum when it opens (probably in late 2017), there will be a wall of 10 of my images in a row – each one 3 meters wide by 7 meters high. This was both a very exciting and intimidating project, and I can’t wait to see the final result. I’ve done a lot of prints over the years, but none quite as large as this. Prints always have something extra that a screen can’t quite deliver, so although I’ll have to wait for a long time to see them, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m going to let the photos remain a surprise – you’re going to have to go to the new museum to take a look and learn the stories associated with them.

I’ve just updated the Impressions gallery on my website. You’ve probably seen many of these images before, but there should be a few new ones too. The general idea of this gallery is to include photos that are about the feeling rather than the subject. They’re impressions as opposed to representations. This doesn’t mean that I’ve done a lot of editing on the photos. As with almost all my images, I’ve done some color correction and contrast adjustments. That’s about it.
If you’re looking for some new jewelry, both Tix on the Square and Daffodil Gallery have new earrings, pendants, and cufflinks to check out. When I dropped them off at Tix today, one sold right as I was unpacking it and the staff were also threatening to buy a bunch — so get them while you can!
The photo above is from Sandy Beach, where I met some of my family this past week. It was great to canoe out on the lake with my brother, chatting and taking pictures of the many birds. This is a Black Tern feeding its young.

I almost forgot — I just updated the photos in Fresh Cafe. There’s now a little tropical corner with some of my photos from Barbados and Dominica. Go grab a coffee and check them out!
This photo is in the cloud forest near Boeri Lake in Dominica after a we’d been hiking for a few hours. You can probably spot one of the dogs, the other is a little more camouflage. They hiked with us all the way from the treehouse where we were staying. I guess they needed a little adventure too.

I’m getting super excited for Folk Fest in a few days! I’ve got lots of new prints and jewelry, so make sure to come visit in the craft tent. Also for the first time, we’ll have information about the photo classes I’m teaching and information on the promotional shoots I’m doing with Eric Beliveau from Threaded Studio.
The photo is from a soggy morning near the east block of Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan. We camped there overnight and it rained the whole time. We barely made it out — all the roads around there turn to mud as soon as it rains.

I’m not doing many shows this summer – in fact only one. I’ve had to narrow them down, but the one I’ve managed to keep is Folk Fest, which I’m super excited about! It’s always a great time, with lots of amazing music and friendly people. And I’ve got lots of new stuff this year. So if you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to get tickets, I’ll see you there!
The Daffodil now has my first extra large square pendants which have been requested by a lot of people! I just dropped them off yesterday.
Today I’m going to pick up my new Olympus OM-D! I’m super excited about this camera. It looks like it will have really good image quality, and because it’s light and weather-sealed it should allow me get to more places and take more interesting photos. I’ll report back once I get a feel for it, but I think it will be good. Now I just have to save up for a couple more lenses. Speaking of which, anyone interested in a Panasonic 14-140 or a Canon 50 f3.5 macro? I’ve used both of them very little, and they’re in great condition.
