New Stuff!

Tix on the Square has a completely new batch of stuff from me. They have new prints if you’ve been and haven’t found what you’re looking for. They also now have cards, postcards, and some new jewelry for you to check out (cufflinks are back, and there are some new earrings and cuffs).

Also, updated galleries for this website are on their way. Watch for those in a week or so!

Come Visit At Folkfest

If you are lucky enough to be going to Edmonton Folk Fest this year, you should come say hi at my booth! I have lots of new prints, new styles of jewelry, and some new postcards I’m trying out. The market is open Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Online Gallery Updates

I’ve completely overhauled my online galleries, and there are a lot of new photos there. Hopefully they’re a lot easier to browse, it’s easier to buy prints, and somewhat useable on a phone or tablet. I’ve been working on this on and off for many months, so it’s exciting to finally have it done and be able to show you all! Of course, nothing is ever really done, but I’m happy with the update.

Folk Fest this Weekend!

I’m getting super excited for Folk Fest in a few days! I’ve got lots of new prints and jewelry, so make sure to come visit in the craft tent. Also for the first time, we’ll have information about the photo classes I’m teaching and information on the promotional shoots I’m doing with Eric Beliveau from Threaded Studio.

The photo is from a soggy morning near the east block of Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan. We camped there overnight and it rained the whole time. We barely made it out — all the roads around there turn to mud as soon as it rains.

Summer Storms

We’ve had some spectacular storms here this summer, and I finally got out to enjoy one last week. Fortunately here in Edmonton they haven’t had the devastating effects they’ve had in the south of the province.

These days I’m busy getting ready for Folk Fest, and all my supply orders are starting to trickle in. I just got a shipment of a few hundred prints that I haven’t finished inspecting yet – I need to get the mats, bags, and backing for all of them yet. Pendants, earrings and cufflinks are starting to be assembled on my worktable as I’m waiting for a shipment of fresh resin. Despite a brief lull of activity due to sickness, things at the humble headquarters here are humming along. Looking forward to seeing all of you who can make it to Folk Fest – it’s always a great time!

Jewelry, Gifts, and Galleries

Have you bought all your Christmas gifts yet? A lot of people I’ve talked with know about my photography but not a lot of people know I make jewelry. And I haven’t mentioned it very much here. I have pendants, earrings, cufflinks and tie clips available (as well as prints) at Tix On The Square (right in Churchill Square) and Daffodil Gallery (on 124 Street and 104 Ave). Both are great places to browse with lots of art and friendly people to chat with.

Also, I’ve been doing some updating in my online gallery (which has been neglected for a while). I’m increasing the size of the galleries so you can get a better idea of the range of my work. So far I’m done Surroundings which is probably my most standard landscape type stuff, Altered which is full of things people have made and ways we’ve changed our world, and finally Rooted which is full of trees and plants. If you’ve looked through my galleries before much of it will be familiar, but I think all of you will find a few you haven’t seen before. Enjoy!

Art at Fresh Cafe

I’ve now got some photos up for sale at Fresh Cafe & Espresso Bar, a new coffee shop on 116 Street just south of Jasper (10038 – 116 Street). Go check them out and enjoy a coffee and amazing snacks and sandwiches.

You still have almost a week to see “Water”, my exhibit at the Stanley Milner Library. I’m really happy with it, and hope you all get to see it! If you don’t get a chance to go see the prints, you can see a poor substitute here: http://joelkoop.com/pwater.php

Photo taken with a Canon 5d, 150mm macro, at f2.8, 1.6 seconds. (This isn’t one of the photos up at Fresh, but it’s one I wanted to share at some point. You’ll have to go to Fresh to find out for yourself.)

Edmonton Folk Fest

I’m looking forward to seeing whoever can make it out to Folk Fest this year. Last year we had a great time, met some wonderful people, and heard some amazing musicians. This year we’re adding the pendants (see one at our Artfire store) to our booth! Anna and I just finished making another batch, so we’ll have a few, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we sell out. If you’re looking to buy one, come early! As always, we’ll have lots of prints and cards as well. We’ll be in the crafter’s tent between August 5th and 7th. We also have someone helping with the booth this year (hi Leah!), so we can have lunch breaks and maybe even catch a show or two.

Until then, I’m driving out to BC to go camping with a good friend, so this will be my last blog post for at least a week. But I promise to come back with lots of photos to share.

Here’s a photo to tide you over — a small creek near Camrose, which flows into the Battle River.
