Bad Weather, Good Light

The worst weather is the best weather if you’re prepared! This was taken while hiking up to the notch (photos provide much needed breaks on steep climbs) on the Skyline Trail in Jasper. Curator Lake is in the foreground with Big Shovel Pass in the back of the spotlight.

  1. “ The worst weather is the best weather if you’re prepared” – true! But it also means being out in the worst weather 😉 Which is why I never get excellent photos like this.

    1. Haha, true. I’ve found it is all about the preparation. I was fairly comfortable taking this photo, but as soon as I got up to the notch it got REALLY cold and windy. I had a miserable few kms of hiking with very few photos. The next day I turned around and did the whole ridge again, but I wore better clothes to deal with the extreme winds and it went MUCH better.

  2. Great shot Joel! I did skyline many years ago and also had lots of dark, wet weather (I didn’t end up with any photos on par with this one, but plenty of good memories nontheless 😉
